DB board repairs, rewiring and circuit breakers
If a breaker trips for no reason, buzzes or feels warm, the board needs looking at. We repair boards, rewire them and install prepaid meters.

The DB board is where every circuit in the house starts. When it is in good shape you never think about it. When it is not, you get breakers that drop on a sunny afternoon, a main switch that is warm to the touch, or a board so full of add-ons that nobody can say which breaker does what.
Plenty of older homes around Garsfontein and Pretoria East still have the board that went in when the house was built, with extra circuits squeezed in over the years for a pool pump, a granny flat or a second geyser. We repair what can be repaired, and where the board has simply run out of space or life, we rewire it neatly and label every breaker.
What people call us about
A breaker that trips on its own
A breaker can be faulty, or it can be doing its job because the circuit is overloaded. We test which one it is before replacing anything.
An old board that needs rewiring
Loose wiring, mixed breakers and no labels. We rewire the board so it is tidy, safe and easy to work on.
Prepaid meter installation
For example for a cottage or a flat where the tenant pays for their own electricity.
A buzzing or warm DB board
Usually a loose or burnt connection. Switch off what you can and phone us. It should not be left like that.
Room for a new circuit
A new stove or a pool pump often needs its own breaker. We check there is space and capacity first.
How we work on a DB board
- 1
We open the board and look before we touch. Burn marks, loose screws, undersized breakers and missing covers tell us a lot.
- 2
We test each circuit and match the breakers to what they feed, so we know what is tripping and why.
- 3
You get a quote for either a repair or a rewire, with the reason for each. If a repair will do, we say so.
- 4
When the work is done, every breaker is labelled so you know which one is the geyser, the stove and the plugs.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between the earth leakage and a normal breaker?
A normal breaker trips when too much current flows, like too many appliances on one circuit. The earth leakage trips when current leaks to earth, often through water or a damaged cable. Both are there to protect you.
How do I know if my DB board needs replacing?
Signs are breakers that trip often for no clear reason, burn marks, a warm or buzzing board, old screw-in fuses, or no room left for new circuits. We can look and give you an honest answer.
Can you install a prepaid meter for my flat or cottage?
Yes. Prepaid meter installations are part of what we do. Phone us and we will explain what your property needs.
Do you charge to come and look?
There is no call out fee, and quotes are free.
